Job Description for Director of Technology Services
DEPARTMENT: Technology
JOB STATUS: Full Time
POSITIONS SUPERVISED: All Technology Department Positions
REPORTS TO: Superintendent
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Technology Services is responsible for overseeing the entire technology (educational technology and administrative technology) infrastructure for all sites under Magnolia School District.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage all aspects of the District’s Information Technology strategies, policies, services, software and hardware, district servers and network infrastructure
- Supervise district network administrators/technicians
- Maintain and administrate district website and social media accounts
- Negotiate, monitor, and administer all Information Technology maintenance, installation, purchase and service agreements
- Review and research all hardware and software needs and compatibility for district
- Maintain district internet filtering and compliance with CIPA (Children’s Internet Protection Act)
- Responsible for all ERATE filing, bidding, audits and procurement for the School and Libraries Services Division of the federal government
- Administrative contact person for the Department of Information Systems at DESE/ADE
- Maintain all internet connectivity with DIS/DESE and Suddenlink
- Provide input on the design of the Appropriate Use Policy for all students, faculty, and staff in regards to policy guidelines and reprimands from infractions
- Ensure that Magnolia School District is maintaining a competitive edge for providing opportunities to all students, faculty and staff
- Ensure that Magnolia School District is meeting state and national educational technology standards
- Work directly with district administrators and teachers on educational technology issues and plans
- To enable all stakeholders within Magnolia School District to have the maximum advantage possible in regards to education technology opportunities
- Perform additional duties assigned by the District Superintendent
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
- Evidence of strong commitment to quality education
- Evidence of strong organizational skills
- Evidence of strong oral and written communication skills
- Knowledge of electronics, networking, and current technology trends.
- Must demonstrate an above average knowledge of networking concepts, including but not limited to, TCP/IP, OSI model, and network switching, routing, network security and fault tolerance.
- Must demonstrate an above average knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server functions and features.
- Must demonstrate an above average knowledge of Microsoft Windows client system function and features.
- Must demonstrate an above average knowledge of SQL database applications.
- Must demonstrate an above average ability to troubleshoot network and connectivity problems.
- Must demonstrate an above average knowledge of telephone IP systems.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of Bachelors Degree from an accredited educational institution with emphasis on Technology or related field. A minimum of 5 years related experience in Information Technology departments or consulting or any equivalent combination of job related experience and education. Experience with managing a staff environment with strong ability to delegate preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional documents. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups and the general public.
